Female actors in Spen are getting ready for their production of a popular West-end play in saucy style!

For their latest production of Calendar Girls, Cleckheaton, and Spenborough Amateur Operatics and Dramatics Society have produced a commemorative charity calendar to tie in with the show.

The show tells the story of a group of women in Rylstone, and their struggles to create a nude calendar to raise money for leukaemia research, and the ladies from Cleckheaton have taken a leaf from their book, and hope to raise money for charity in the process.

Ian Stevenson, from Spen Amateurs said: “It is a popular and poignant story.

“The calendar also features photographs of the principals in ‘tasteful poses’. We hope that people will enjoy the quirkiness of it all!”

In a break from tradition, the calendar runs from June 2013 to May 2014 and is on sale from members of the cast priced £2.50.

All the profits from the sale of the calendars will go directly to Cancer Research UK. Spenborough Amateurs has been running since 1918, and performing twice-yearly shows, raising money for various charities.

The play, based on the 2003 film starring Helen Mirren, will be performed at Cleckheaton Town Hall from May 15-17.

Tickets range from £7-£12, and calendars are available when purchasing programmes.
