Funding from Biffa Awards has helped to breathe new life into Hopton Mills Cricket Club, which now has a state-of-the-art training facility.

And the club is set to welcome a cricket legend this weekend as Yorkshire CC bowler Ryan Sidebottom will officially open the facility.

The facilities will be used for the club’s younger and older children to learn to play cricket, and will be open to the community.

Andrew Moorhouse, manager of the project, said: “The artificial training facilities we have developed will be a beacon of excellence in the area and will encourage active participation in cricket at both junior and senior level.

“The club has a proud tradition in producing talented local cricketers and encouraging continued participation into senior cricket. We see this as the start of the journey that will provide more opportunity for participation and provide the facilities for both junior and senior cricketers in the area to reach their potential. The club’s wholehearted thanks go to Biffa Award and members of the club involved in funding, promoting the facility and volunteering their own time to work on the project.”

The facility will be opened on Sunday from 10.30am.

The event is open to the public, anyone interested in playing for Hopton Mills Cricket Club or those wishing to use the facility.
