Student bags award

Harriett Owens, 20, of Dewsbury, was awarded a Bright Futures Scholarship by Leeds Beckett University.

She is one of 14 first-year students at the university to receive a £1,000 grant.

The scholarship offers support to students who may not be able to afford a university education.

The scholarships, based on merit, are awarded to students who are the first in their family to go to university.
