People can give money towards a sunflower plaque as part of the Sunflower Memories Appeal. Their loved ones’ name will be put on the plaque, which will then be placed in the hospice’s garden in Albany Road, Huddersfield.

The plaques can be viewed on Saturday June 28 and later taken home by the donator.

Noreen Williams, ward sister at Kirkwood, said: “We are really excited to be launching the inaugural Sunflower Memories Appeal. It will be a poignant and wonderful occasion with the Kirklees community coming together to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones.

“We see at first hand the difference our care makes to the quality of life for more than 1,800 patients and their families every year. It is a real privilege to be part of the nursing team.

“Without the support of the community, we simply could not do what we do. We hope everybody will get behind this appeal and help us to continue providing care and support for our patients and their families, completely free of charge, when they need it the most.”

Kirkwood Hospice supports people across the district who are suffering from life-limiting illnesses. Care and support is also provided for their family members, friends and carers, both during the illness and after death.
