“He used to honk at me while I cycled passed,” said Lillian. “Which was most annoying!”

Little did Lillian Scott know cheeky taxi driver Barry would turn out to be the man of her dreams.

The couple, who live in Turnsteads Close. have just celebrated 60 years together.

Barry had served in the army before he set up a cab business in Heckmondwike, where he was captivated by Lillian’s daily bike rides though town.

“I got off my bike one day, and we started chatting,” said Lillian, 80. “He asked if he could take me to the pictures, and it just went from there!”

Barry, 87, who later worked as a pipe fitter, and Lillian wed three years later at Heckmondwike Moravian Church.

For their milestone, they gave money to several charities including the British Legion and St John Ambulance.

For many years Lillian was the head warden at Hare Park Grange in Hightown.
