Teenager injured in collision helped by passing firefighters

Firefighters on their way to tackle a blaze at a warehouse stopped to help a teenager hit by a car.

The 13-year-old girl had been injured after being hit by a car on Savile Road, Savile Town, just before 8pm last night (Monday).

A fire crew from Batley Fire Station who were on route to a fire at a waste site in Thornhill Lees passed by the scene of the incident and stopped to give first aid.

A spokesman for Batley Fire Station said: “A lady flagged down the crew when they were on their way to an incident. A young girl had been knocked down. The command unit continued on to the job but the fire engine stopped to give first aid.

“We would always stop if we saw something like that.”

A police spokeswoman said: “A 13-year-old girl was in collision with a vehicle, suffering slight injuries. Both the fire and ambulance services were on the scene prior to the police being called.”
