GCSE pupils across the Spen Valley are celebrating their best GCSE results yet.
Whitcliffe Mount School has seen record breaking results, with 92 per cent of pupils achieving five or more A*-C grades, which is seven per cent higher than its 2011 results.
Appleton Academy is also celebrating record results, with 90 per cent of pupils achieving five or more A*-C grades – 56 per cent including English and maths.
Principal Dwayne Saxton congratulated pupils on their ‘excellent set of results’, saying: “The wonderful achievement of our young people bodes well for the future as the academy moves into its iconic new building during the next term, which will provide state of the art teaching and learning facilities to support the future achievement of our children and young people.”
Spen Valley Sports College’s acting headteacher Diane McConnell congratulated pupils on their results.
She said: “Once again we have seen a significant improvement in progress and a continuous rise in attainment across all subject areas.
“This reflects the hard work of all our students and the continued commitment and hard work of all our staff.”
Pupil Joseph Smith said he was very pleased with his results, adding: “I am going to Huddersfield New College to study golf coaching. My parents will be ecstatic with my results.”
Georgie Taylor said she was very happy, saying: “I got all my targets. I did lots of revision.” She will study animal management at Kirklees College.
At Heckmondwike Grammar School, a third of all grades were at A*. The school’s overall pass rate at grade C and above raised to 98 per cent. Headteacher Mike Cook congratulated pupils for their hard work.
