A COUPLE will be donning their biking gear to embark on a motorbike marathon in memory of a friend who was killed last year.

Mike and Rachel Barrett, of Liversedge, will be driving from Land’s End to John O’Groats on their BMW in May to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Mike said: “We are doing the ride to raise money in memory of our best friend Mick Hopson. of Todmorden, who was tragically killed on his motorbike while riding to work in October last year.

“We are funding the trip ourselves, so all the money collected will go to the charity.

“We plan on taking about three days to complete the ride to John O’Groats and there will be a few bikers meeting up with us along the way, riding with us for a few miles and giving cash donations.”

The couple will bike down to Cornwall for the start of the epic trip to Scotland before travelling back to Liversedge – meaning they will effectively be doing the trip twice!

Rachel said: “Mike has been riding bikes all his adult life and we thought this would be a fitting way to remember Mick, as well as raising money for a very worthwhile cause.”

Mike added: “Motorworks BMW in Huddersfield have offered me a voucher for £50 that I am using to raise money with, we also have a sponsor who has very kindly offered to pay our fuel bill for the run, and a company called Opie Oils is also helping us out with our costs.”

The couple, who run their own book business company, have set up a page on the Just Giving website for people who want to donate. Visit
