IT may be six months away but organisers are already tuning up for Cleckheaton’s 24th folk festival.

The initial line-up for the festival, which grips the town over the first weekend of July, has just been announced.

Headliners include Spiers and Boden, the Jackie Oates Band, Chris While and Julie Matthews, The Carravick Sisters and The Woodshed Band.

As usual the town will be flooded with folk music lovers who come from all over the country, and even abroad, for the feast of music and other entertainment.

There will be concerts, singarounds, workshops, music sessions, a ceilidh, street entertainment and family fun day.

Chris While and Julie Matthews, who play on the opening night of the festival - Friday July 1 - have been nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards eight times and are hugely respected in folk music circles.

The Jackie Oates Band, nominated for best folk singer of the year, will play on Saturday and Spiers and Boden, founders of Bellowhead, on the Sunday. For more information visit www.cleckheatonfolkfestival.org.
