UPDATE: Batley nursery open after vandals destroy playground

THE nursery at Purlwell School has reopened today after vandals caused extensive damage to its playground.

The nursery was closed on Monday so the playground could be seen by police officers and then cleaned up.

Parts of the outside area are so damaged they have been deemed dangerous by the school’s acting headteacher, Sue Gallivan. Other toys and resources have been damaged beyond repair.

Whoever vandalised the playground is thought to have done so over the weekend.

They broke into two sheds and threw the contents across the yard. They also emptied the children’s sandpit and threw sand at the Batley school building.

Police have been carrying out door to door enquiries in Purlwell. Anyone who saw or heard anything is asked to contact them via 101.
