UPDATE: Three arrested after Cleckheaton crash

Three men were arrested last night after being involved in a three-car pile up in Cleckheaton.

The accident took place at 7.47pm at the junction of Bradford Road and St Pegg Lane, a Peugeot 106, a Citroen C2 and a Citroen Xsara collided at the junction.

A 24-year-old female in the C2 was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital for treatment to a minor injury.

A nine-year-old boy in the Xsara was taken to hospital in Dewsbury for treatment to minor injuries.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Peugeot was taken to hospital with a broken leg while two male passengers, both aged 22, suffered minor injures and also received hospital treatment.

The Peugeot had previously failed to stop for officers when requested, heading along St Pegg Lane towards the Bradford Road junction.

Police had been pursuing the Peugeot along St Pegg Lane prior to the incident but were not involved in the collision itself.

All three of the males in the Peugeot were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Chief supt Tim Kingsman, of Kirklees Police, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into this incident and as a police pursuit was declared prior to the collision taking place, a referral has been made to the IPCC.

“Three males from the Peugeot have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

“Anyone who saw the collision or has any information about the incident is asked to call the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”
