Storytellers and street performers entertained shoppers when Dewsbury town centre was transformed into a seaside resort.
A real sand beach, courtesy of Ponderosa Rural Therapeutic Centre, sprung up in Market Place for Saturday’s Dewsbury on Sea celebrations.
Elsewhere, families enjoyed fairground rides and a host of attractions.
Dewsbury town centre manager Andrew Sloman said: “It was a really great day. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
“The forecast was poor and it was a bit quiet at the beginning of the day, but people flooded into town as soon as they realised it wasn’t going to rain.”
The centrepiece of this year’s event was a giant 50ft whale which housed a theatre and storytellers.
Mr Sloman said: “Real Radio pulled crowds all day, Bruce Airhead pulled huge crowds, and the whale and Noah’s Ark were hugely popular. The face painters and caricature artists had queues all day and the beach was packed as usual.”
The event, organised by Kirklees Council, continued on Sunday and Monday when the free beach was open again for families to enjoy.
