Video nasty shock for mum after charity shop porn blunder

A MUM was horrified when her young children wound up watching porn thanks to a charity shop’s blue movie blunder.

When Kirsty Carey bought Disney film The Little Mermaid from British Heart Foundation, she expected an afternoon of family entertainment.

Instead, the 24-year-old had to scramble to cover the television as pornographic images flashed before the eyes of Millie, 5, and Kaiden, 3.

Miss Carey, of Hazel Close, Chickenley, said: “I opened the case and it wasn’t an official Disney video but it was only 50p so I wasn’t bothered about that. I thought the shop must have tested it because it was rewound.

“I put it in and nipped to the toilet and when I got back the kids were asking what it was and what the people were doing. They’re too young to hear about the birds and the bees.”

Miss Carey phoned the Foundry Street shop and the charity’s head office but was told staff did not have time to check every video.

“They should be checking all the videos but they obviously hadn’t even opened it,” Miss Carey said.

Now the charity is investigating how the X-rated video ended up on sale.

BHF deputy retail director Diane Locke said: “Firstly I’d like to offer my sincere apologies to Miss Carey and her children.

“As soon as we were informed, all videos on sale in the Dewsbury shop were taken off the shop floor and thoroughly checked before they went on sale again.

“All videos donated should be inspected. Unfortunately, it appears on this occasion the inspection was not made.”

She said the charity was now making sure all staff were properly trained and its donation checking policy was being followed rigidly in its shops.
