The society makes a presentation of the trophy every year to a person who has made a huge contribution to life at the Whitfield Centre in Soothill Lane.

Volunteer Martin Eatherley, who has known Roger for more than a decade, said: “He has been involved at the centre for years.

“Without people like him, the centre would not be able to offer the trips out and other activities for the members.”

Roger has dedicated his time and effort in many ways for the society, from organising and taking members swimming to helping assist them on holidays organised by the society.

He was presented with the trophy by Batley and Spen MP Mike Wood at the Soothill
centre.

Martin added: “It is nice that he has been recognised for the work he has done.”
