Wallace Hartley’s violin sold for £900,000

The violin, considered the ‘holy grail’ of Titanic memorablila by auctioneers Henry Alridge and Son, was played to calm passengers as the luxury ship sand in the early hours of April 15, 1912.

Wallace Hartley, of Dewsbury, died along with 1,517 passengers and crew.

Last week the iconic violin returned to Dewsbury for a special one day exhibit at Dewsbury Town Hall.

It also visited the house in West Park Street where Hartley lived.
