We want Mary! Dewsbury Reporter calls on retail expert Mary Portas to visit our town

THIS week the Dewsbury Reporter calls on TV retail guru Mary ‘Queen of Shops’ Portas to make our town the first stop in her national high street review.

The self-styled retail expert has been challenged to investigate the decline of the nation’s high streets by Prime Minister David Cameron.

And with the news that WHSmith and Dorothy Perkins will soon leave Dewsbury, it has never been more important for the town to fight back.

Mary says she wants to help return the bustle to town centres up and down the country.

And we think Dewsbury should be the first town to share its ideas for change and learn from her experiences.

We will be writing to Mary and inviting her to Dewsbury to see first hand the problems facing the town and the strengths it can build on.

We will also be sending her a copy of our 2009 Supports Our Shops campaign so that she can see the passion and loyalty of the many traders, businesses and shoppers who have stuck with our town through thick and thin.

Pick up a copy of today’s Reporter for the full story.
