That’s according to Joanne Campbell, a volunteer counsellor for Support and Care After Road Death and Injury (SCARD).

Qualified counsellor Joanne volunteers for the Mirfield-based charity, providing sessions for people who need support after a road accident.

But the charity urgently needs more for volunteers to help man its 365-day helpline.

Joanne said: “You need to be interested in helping people, warm and genuine, non judgmental and with life experience.

“The helpline staff are like gatekeepers to the services SCARD offers, like counselling or legal advice.

“You can be involved as little or as much as you want –SCARD will make use of whatever time you have to offer, even if it’s only two hours a fortnight. Helping people get to the other side after a tragedyis very rewarding.”
