Earlier this year the inspector indicated that the LDF did not include enough new housing and also criticised Kirklees for not consulting enough with neighbouring authorities to produce a coherent regional plan.

He also suggested the council considers withdrawing its plan – an option which Kirklees has not yet sought.

Last week council leader Mehboob Khan told Cabinet members he feared they would have to make plans for an additional 7,500 new homes, bringing the total to around 30,000.

At the exploratory meeting on September 18 the inspector will outline his concerns and answer questions. Members of the public can attend, although they will not be able to debate previously made representations at this stage.

The meeting will be at 10am at the Yorkshire Children’s Centre, Brian Jackson House, New North parade, Huddersfield, HD1 5JP. Those wanting to attend should call Tony Blackburn on 01254 260286 or email [email protected].
