A report submitted to Kirklees Council suggest councillors agree to close Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre six months early to accommodate the building of the new secondary school.
In a report up for consideration at the next Kirklees Cabinet meeting on Tuesday January 27, it recommended the centre close by the end of May next year to be demolished.
It read: “Consider and approve the bringing forward of the closure of WMSC from late 2016 to end of May 2016 on a date to be agreed with the Education Funding Agency as part of the contract for the demolition
of the site and its replacement with a new build school and standalone sports hall.
“These recommendations are made to ensure that the maximum benefit for the council is achieved from the EFA’s redevelopment proposals for the Whitcliffe Mount School site.”
While the proposals are yet to be agreed, cabinet support is likely, as the report states: “The portfolio holders, Coun S Pandor and Coun P O’Neill, fully endorse the officer recommendations.”
