Why we love to go on the buses

BUS operator Arriva has outlined just how its services benefit passengers throughout North Kirklees.

The firm has produced a colour brochure using the voices of ordinary people to highlight how its bus services benefit their daily lives.

Included in the document are the stories of Janette Kaye and Idrees Ashfaq.

In the brochure Janette, who works at Morrisons, in Heckmondwike, said: “It’s a great feeling that we have helped Heckmondwike get its tea on the table.”

Meanwhile, school boy Idrees told the publication: “We have been learning about Shoddy and Mungo today, we have been learning about Dewsbury in the old days.”

The pair were just two of the customers approached at random, to share their experiences.

Nigel Featham, managing director for Arriva Yorkshire, said: ”People are at the heart of everything we do, and with over 80 new buses being delivered to Yorkshire this year, we wanted to celebrate with the people who live and work in the communities we serve.”

The promotional push by Arriva comes off the back of 43 new buses being added to Arriva’s fleet since the turn of the year.

The aim behind the brochure was to show just how much of an impact the company’s investment had upon ordinary commuters and passengers.

The firm invested £12m in its West Yorkshire vehicles, covering Kirklees, Wakefield, Leeds and Bradford.

Arriva, which has depots in Heckmondwike and Dewsbury, was awarded Bus Operator of the Year in 2011.
