Woodkirk CC quit CY League

WOODKIRK CC have pulled out of the Central Yorkshire League next season.

A catalogue of problems, including having no groundsman at their Leeds Road ground nor club sponsor, have forced the club to quit the league.

Club captain Garry Dawber explained that he would be writing to other clubs to get Woodkirk’s players placed in time for the new season.

He added: “We are exploring with the football section the possibility of junior cricket being run by them so hopefully cricket can still retain a foothold at Woodkirk and maybe come back in the future.”

The League’s new chairman Mark Heald said in a statement to clubs:

“We have been liaising regularly with club officials over recent weeks but unfortunately the club has now had to accept that a solution to their current difficulties cannot be found.

“It is my understanding that they are hopeful that junior cricket may continue and we wish them well in that regard for the future. New fixtures will be issued at the next CYL executive meeting and on the website.
