World record smashed by Tom

A tennis ace racked up 500 matches and £1800 by breaking a world record.

Tom Allard, 20, took on 29 consecutive opponents at Thornhill Tennis Club – playing for 22 hours and an exhausting 62 sets.

The maths student is now waiting for Guinness World Records to officially confirm he has beaten the previous record of 25 matches.

He broke the record after playing his brother James.

Mr Allard, of Thornhill Edge, said: “It was very tough in the very warm weather and this took its toll on me during the day and consequently I found it harder over night because I had used up a lot of energy to get me through the day.”

The cash raised will be split between the club, whose courts need resurfacing, and The Alzheimer’s Society.
