Would-be burglars removed bricks to break into shop

Would-be thieves tried to burgle a Chickenley newsagent by removing bricks from the wall.

But their attempt to break into Duncan Stores in Princess Lane was foiled when they found their way blocked by a wooden beam.

The suspects climbed on an industrial bin at the back of the shop some time between 8pm last Tuesday and 1.11pm last Wednesday.

They removed six bricks and cement from the wall in an attempt to get into the stockroom but left empty handed.

PC Shafeek Yunis, of Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is an unusual way to attempt to burgle these premises and it must have taken some time for them to remove the bricks.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around the time of this offence.”
