It focuses on the battlefield sites of the Somme in France and Ypres in Belgium.

Gareth, who was born in Dewsbury, now lives in Stamford Bridge and is head of history at Pocklington School. He has led many groups to the Western Front in the past.

His experiences showed him there was a real need for a guide book for party leaders, so he decided to write one.

“It strips it down to two to three tour routes,” he said. “It’s built around stories which other books don’t do. It’s a bit of a niche in the market.”

Copies of the book are available from Amazon for about £10.
