Confusion over Tory candidates

I WAS interested, if not a little surprised, to read last week that the Conservatives have selected a second candidate to stand in Liversedge and Gomersal at May elections.

I recall reading a story in the Guardian a few months ago saying that a man from the Birkenshaw high school campaign was to be the candidate and how much he was looking forward to it. Yet last week it was reported that the Conservatives have chosen a woman from the same campaign, who’s also looking forward to it. Surely they can’t be so greedy as to have two candidates for one seat?

As both the Conservative candidates live in Birkenshaw, then if either one of them is elected this will mean none of the three councillors (all Conservative, of course) for Liversedge will live in the area - two in Birstall and Birkenshaw, one in Batley West – but Birkenshaw will in effect be represented by five councillors!

And silly me thought we were supposed to be having local elections in May
