Fond memories of Andy

I WOULD now normally be promoting the next Acoustic Night taking place tonight (Friday) but feel it only respectful to first give my own humble tribute to Andy Banks who died recently after a tragic accident as reported in last week’s Guardian.

Through my involvement with Crown of Lights I met Andy Banks as part of the established Dewsbury music scene. With the help of Facebook, a vibrant community of musicians and music lovers has built up over the last few years in this whole area and losing Andy is like losing a treasured family member. It really hurts.

Since starting Crown of Lights in 2007 I’d only just managed to book Andy and his incredible and unique band Eric The Viaduct for last summer’s festival and they ended up being the most talked about band we’ve ever had on.

At that packed sunny festival in Green Park he was telling me how it was fantastic to see the town this way and loving how there was so much more live music taking place now in Heckmondwike and in all the surrounding towns and villages. My enduring memory of Andy is as a lovely passionate man and he will be dearly missed by many.

I’m sure he would just want us to crack on now with organising more live music. Rest in peace Andy.
