Liversedge still has fond memories for us

On visiting my family in Liversedge last week they delightedly handed me a copy of the Spenborough Guardian of June 14 – open at page 29.

It was quite a surprise to see the winning photograph of Susan Parker of Birkenshaw, taken during a cruise ship visit to beautiful Akaroa, New Zealand, our home village from which we had just arrived.

Congratulations to Susan and thank you for you kind comments that “Akaroa was the nicest place she had ever visited.”

My wife and I first visited Akaroa in 1998 and fell in love with the beautiful village and its majestic harbour which is set in an extinct volcano surrounded by mountains.

We returned the following year, bought land and built a lovely home in the heart of the village.

Both my wife and I are from Liversedge and those with a long memory will remember the insurance company that I formed and operated very successfully at the Swan Cross Roads from 1963 to 1991, Spen Valley Insurance Agency – so Liversedge still has fond memories for us.

Back to the present day.

We now have a magnificent new guest house sitting on a 17 acre hillside estate just two kilometres out of Akaroa which we built in 2011.

Anyone who would like to see more of beautiful Akaroa should take a look at our website

Eighty-six cruise ships are scheduled to visit Akaroa, which is just 50 miles from Christchurch, during the summer holiday season between October 2013 and April 2014.

Maybe Susan will be back?
