Ode to Heckmondwike

AS a bus driver based at Arriva, Heckmondwike, for the last five years. I see and hear many things, funny, puzzling and bizarre.

So in my spare time I write poems and rhymes and because I have become so affectionate of the local community thought I would share this poem.

My Adopted Town

The northern town of Heckmondwike, is a place where I’m employed.

Its community there is warm, which over the years I’ve enjoyed.

People that I work amongst there, are like traditional Yorkshire folk,

Even through hard times, they find time to laugh ‘n’ joke.

I sincerely love my job in Hecky, and the community that I serve,

The hospitality I receive there, is more than I deserve.

Sometimes I think of Heckmondwike, as my adopted town,

Its people lift my spirits, on days when I’m feeling down.

Today I can relate to Hecky, she is now part of my life,

I can nearly almost say, I respect her like my wife!

Hecky’s people are the tops!
