Poppy collection thanks

On behalf of the Spenborough branch of the Royal British Legion I would like to thank residents of Spen Valley for their support of the poppy appeal.

This year’s collection has exceeded all past records, the amount collected just over £24,000 including donations received for wreaths supplied for Remembrance Sunday.

Special mention must be made of the organisers who distribute poppies throughout the districts, Mrs Haley, Oakenshaw; Mr and Mrs Mills, Gomersal; Mrs Haigh, Liversedge; Mrs Stone, Hartshead; Mr Howarth, Hunsworth and Mr Harrison, Birkenshaw, and all the shops and outlets who let us place collecting boxes in their premises.

Thanks also to Mrs Marriott who organises the street collections in Cleckheaton, as well as being a district organiser for Gomersal south, and her dedicated team, to Allan Serjeant, who organises the collection team in Tesco, and David Walker who organises the teams that collect at Hartshead Moor Services.

I cannot mention all the volunteers who form the above teams, but they know who they are, and the Legion Committee is eternally grateful for your commitment to the appeal.

But the biggest thank you goes to the public of the Spenborough area who have been more than generous in what are austere times.

Chairman, Spenborough Branch, Royal British Legion
