I DON’T know what our council has planned to mark the 60th year in the reign of Her Majesty The Queen.
However now that Heckmondwike Market Place has become vacant with the move to the indoor market, maybe consideration could be given to making the Market Place the focal point for the celebrations.
As I understand it, there was a fountain in the Market Place before the clock, so maybe a water feature could be installed as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth who, for 60 years, has represented our country and the Commonwealth in a most majestic, dignified manner.
As well as being a lasting tribute to a remarkable woman, a fountain would add the finishing touch to the town centre regeneration scheme.
