Anderson instrumental as Sharks make progress

Shaw Cross Sharks booked their place in the National Conference Cup second round with a 26-0 victory over Crossfields.

Jordan Anderson produced an instrumental display at scrum-half as he bagged a brace of tries, while centre Robbie Byatt capped a man of the match performance with a try.

Sharks second row Greg Wilby and Crossfields prop Phil Brazendale were sin-binned after seven minutes and it was while both sides were still down to 12 men that the home side struck with Anderson’s first try.

Shaw Cross then struck three quick blows in the space of seven minutes to seal victory.

Heworth opened the scoring with an unconverted try wide on the left only to knock on at the kick off and second row Curtis Sidebottom dummied through to score between the posts, with Alex Whittaker converting.

Cross added further tries through Jordan Ward and Leon Lonergan and after Heworth replied with a second try, Aiden Chandler crossed for the visitors as the Sharks led 22-8 at half-time.

Heworth hit back with two tries and a conversion at the start of the second half but the Sharks responded well with John Rourke scoring before Sidebottom added his second try, converted by Jamie Searby.

Heworth could not cope with a strong Cross pack and Chandler grabbed his second to complete the away win.
