Armthorpe strike late to dump Sedge out of FA Vase

Liversedge were sent crashing out of the FA Vase in dramatic fashion last Saturday as Armthorpe scored a 90th minute winner.

men following a double sending off in the 78th minute but battled from behind and looked to have sent the tie into extra time with an 88 minute equaliser.

With both sides contemplating extra time, Armthorpe broke and capitalised on the numerical advantage for Jay Rollins to score.

In a lively opening period, Liversedge took a fifth minute lead when Josh Cook sent Brad Riley through and he squared the ball for Gibril Bojang to slot home.

Darren Mansaram was allowed space in the area and did well to turn and fire home but Liversedge regained the lead when Riley fed Ben Grech-Brooksbank and he squared for Bojang to grab his second goal.

Gary Mundy capitalised on more poor Liversedge defending to control and fire home as Armthorpe levelled at 2-2.

The second half was equally as entertaining and Armthorpe went ahead for the first time after 72 minutes when David Buck raced down the left and produced a neat finish to make it 3-2.

Sedge striker Matthew Bugg and Armthorpe defender Craig Morley tangled on the floor and players from both sides rushed in to separate them.

The referee consulted both assistants and when calm was restored, Bugg and Morley were shown red cards, with Liversedge’s Sam Bibb receiving a second yellow as the home side were reduced to nine men.

Grech-Brooksbank’s late shot was deflected over the line for Bojang to complete his hat-trick but it proved in vain as Armthorpe broke and Rollins bagged a 90th minute winner.
