Batley Boys Under-12s are looking forward to a day out at the BARLA Yorkshire Cup final after defeating Siddal 18-8 in last Sunday’s semi.
The Boys youngsters will travel to the John Charles Centre for Sport, South Leeds Stadium, on Saturday January 23, with their final to kick off at 11.30am.
Batley and Siddal put on an outstanding game of rugby league in bad conditions and the tie was scoreless for the opening 15 minutes.
Siddal broke the deadlock with a well worked try in the corner but Batley stuck to their game plan, with Dylan Waterworth trying to control play in boggy conditions.
Batley pressure was rewarded five minutes before half-time when Thomas Fisher stepped through the defence from acting half-back and sent Levi Edwards on a run to the corner for an unconverted try.
Despite strong running from Joshua Rhodes, Joshua Stones and Louis Tarpey, the sides went into half-time level at 4-4.
Batley started the second half better, with strong running from Kaiden Smith and Lewis Hartley.
Quick handling from Bradley Hyett, Bailey Aldridge and Edwards sent Wilson Martin over for a well worked try.
Edwards converted and added a penalty soon after.
Siddal had their chances but failed to keep hold of the ball, while wingers Louis Gibbons and Jordan North put the home side under further pressure.
Spectators MoM Edwards eventually scored between the posts and Aldridge converted to put Batley 18-4 ahead.
Jake Speight came off the bench and also played well, adding to a great team display.
Siddal scored an unconverted try in the final minute but Batley held on to book their place in the final.
MoM was Thomas Fisher.
