BATLEY Bulldogs missed the chance to lead the Co-operative Championship on Thursday evening as hosts Sheffield Eagles won 26-16 to claim top spot.

Menzie Yere crossed to give Sheffield the lead but Batley hit back with tries from Ben Black and Alex Bretherton plus a Gareth Moore goal to be 10-4 up after 25 minutes

The home side responded well and tries from Quentin Laulu-Togagae and Dane Straugher, both converted by Simon Brown, saw them lead 16-10 at the break.

Laulu-Togagae bagged a second try soon after the break while Yere added his second midway through the half before Gareth Potts scored a consolation try 12 minutes from time converted by Moore.
