Batley seal fine victory — Liversedge hopes suffer setback

BATLEY boosted their promotion hopes on a dramatic day of cricket in Central Yorkshire League Division One.

The Mount Pleasant side earned a fine win over Wakefield Thornes A but Carlton remain top of the table following a four-wicket victory over promotion rivals Liversedge.

Ossett A failed to raise a side for the second successive week, so their opponents Moorlands were awarded the six points, which leaves them level on 78 points with Batley.

Victory also guaranteed Batley a place in the Yorkshire Council Play-offs supplementary competition and they will entertain Pontefract Section side Stainborough on Sunday.

The Central Yorkshire League have been granted three places in the play-offs this season, so Moorlands also qualify.

They will travel to South Yorkshire side Shiregreen, while Carlton have been paired away to Coal Aston.

Liversedge posted a very useful total of 256-6 in their crunch clash at Carlton with Max Power (64), David Winter (51), David Bolt (36) and Tanvir Bashir (33) leading the way.

Defeat leaves Liversedge fifth in the table, 11 points behind Batley with four games remaining.
