Battyeford’s chase for the Heavy Woollen Sunday League Division One title ended in success after a 2-1 win over Clifton Rangers Reserves.

Battyeford have been chasing long time leaders Hanging Heaton Cricket Club for some weeks but victory sees them take the title by a single point.

Since losing 3-1 to Heaton in February, Battyeford have won six and drawn one of their final seven matches to take the crown.

Ash Harper and Michael Foster netted in last Sunday’s title clinching win away to Clifton.

Veteran Mick Edson and Gareth Jones both struck twice as Scholes Athletic won 5-3 against Birkenshaw Reserves in the other Division One match played last Sunday, with Jonny Irvine hitting the other.

Battyeford Belles Ladies first team ended won the West Riding Women’s League Division One title by nine points over their nearest rivals.

The Belles ended the season with a 3-1 win over Wetherby Athletic.

An outstanding midfield performance from Leanne Webster earned her girl of the game, closely followed by Katie Clarkson, who grabbed a hat-trick.

The Belles now look forward to playing in the Premier League next season.
