Ben Kendall attempts to force his way through the Fryston defence in Saturday’s Pennine League clash.

Moor rested several of their younger players ahead of Sunday’s Yorkshire Under-18s Cup tie and they fell 10-0 behind early on as Newsome made a bright start with two tries and a conversion.

Anthony Boardman pulled a try back after 30 minutes, crossing wide on the left.

With half-time approaching, Boardman broke away, James Eatherley continued the surge and Chris Mortimer was on hand to score. Stand off Richard Squires converted to level matters.

Moor stepped up a gear in the second half, producing enterprising attacking moves.

Scrum-half Dean Arundel produced three defence splitting passes which resulted in the hard working Bartley O’Brian scoring a brace and Mortimer adding his second.

Two Squires conversions saw Moor 26-10 ahead but Newsome pulled a try back despite the defensive efforts of Phil Shotton, Adam Barrett and Ashley Boddy.

Arundel produced another long pass and Eatherley sent fellow centre Andy Robinson racing away before he sent winger Jonjoe Fox racing in at the corner for a try which Squires improved.

Newsome again reduced the arrears with another converted try before Cameron Bruce, Matt Shaw and Jordan Pearson drove Moor into a good position for prop Ben Hardacre to barge over. Squires converted.

Newsome scored again, reducing the deficit to 38-28 but Moor ended strongly and Bruce made a 30 metre break before he was tackled and prevented from playing the ball.

Peter Robinson took a quick tap penalty and sent brother Andy barging over.

Moor attacked again and hooker Bruce broke through, O’Brian continued the move and centre Andy Robinson sent winger Fox over unopposed in Newsome’s left corner to complete the scoring.

Moor are due to entertain Allerton Bywater on Saturday (ko 2pm), looking to pile pressure on second placed Batley Boys, who were not in action last week and return with a home game against Newsome.
