Birstall and Methley in Bradford League move

The scene at Mirfield Parish Cavaliers was mirrored by many grounds across the district last week as rain decimated the Central Yorkshire League.

The pair will join Division Two, while the Bradford League have confirmed that at least two clubs will be promoted at the end of this season.

Rain once again decimated last week’s CYL programme with no play possible in the Premiership games involving Carlton v Ossett, Mirfield Parish Cavaliers v Wrenthorpe, Hunslet Nelson v Buttershaw St Paul’s and Birstall v Townville.

Methley made light work of Altofts to register a third straight win and the champions are already eight points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

Twins Marcus (5-19) and Eddie Walmsley (4-12) combined to dismiss Altofts for just 83, despite the efforts of Akram Asif (39no) and Jonathan Donnelly (37).

Methley cruised to 87-1 in reply as Richard Foster made 54 not out.

Batley slipped to a third straight defeat as Wakefield Thornes posted 242-8, with David Toft hitting a splendid 102.

Muhammad Hafeez claimed 3-42 but although Sardar Khan top scored with 77 in reply, Batley were restricted to 189-9.

TariqHussain (22no) and Huzaifa Patel (16no) produced an unbroken last wicket stand of 24 to earn Batley batting points and deny Thornes a maximum six points.

Hopton Mills recovered from 57-4 to reach 210-6 off 50 overs in their Championship clash with Northowram Fields.

Chris Scott (62no) and Adam Smith (48no) produced an unbroken 81-run stand for seventh wicket, while Steve Bland chipped in with 38 but the match was abandoned before Northowram replied.

Oulton were 117-2 off 27.4 overs at Liversedge, as Imran Mayat hit 43 off 45 balls before play was halted for the day.

East Ardsley managed to beat the weather to close on Championship leaders Azaad.

Ardsley dismissed Caribbean for 135 as veteran David Battye returned splendid figures of 8-29 before Ashley Pearson (37), Louie Hurley (31) and Simon Davies (30) steered East Ardsley to 138-5.

Adwalton posted 209-9 in their Division One game against Great Preston, who replied with 144-0 when rain stopped play.

n While Birstall and Methley will leave the CYL at the end of this season, Heckmondwike and Carlinghow will join from the Huddersfield Central League.

Heckmondwike earned a six-wicket derby win over Mount in the Huddersfield Central Premier Section.

Jonathan Elstub (5-23), Paul Cooper (3-16) and Chris Allan (2-19) helped dismiss Mount for 88 before Matthew Crowther (28) and Allan (21no) steered Heckmondwike to 90-4.

Mount B earned a three-wicket win over Heckmondwike and Carlinghow B in Section A.
