Dewsbury boxer Akbar to make pro debut on undercard to massive Frampton title fight

Dewsbury's Amaar 'The Prodigy' Akbar will make his long-awaited professional debut on the undercard to Carl Frampton's WBO world super-featherweight title fight against champion Jamel Herring on February 27.

Akbar, who signed for Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions last year, is aiming to make an impact in London where Frampton will be aiming to make history by becoming a three-weight world champion.

Super lightweight Akbar, born in Dewsbury and now living in Batley, is looking forward to appearing on the bill that will be televised live by BT Sport and set to attract millions of viewers around the world.

The former Mirfield Free Grammar School student was a highly decorated amateur, winning two national titles, two national finals, six Yorkshire titles and is also an England representative.

He is now aiming to make big strides in the pro ranks and said: "I want to put our local area and Yorkshire on the map. It is hard at the moment with Covid but I have been able to train and workout as he is an elite athlete. I hope to put back smiles back on the faces of local people."
