Vanzie heads north for national boxing semi

ASHLEY VANZIE of the Cleckheaton Boxing Academy is heading to Newcastle tomorrow (Saturday) to take his place in the National ABA Boxing semi-finals.

Vanzie, the current Universities Champion secured his place in the final four with a fine points decision over John Pontone representing The Army in an exciting contest at Scunthorpe last Sunday.

Now Vanzie will represent the Cleckheaton club in the final four in one of the most prestigious national amateur competitions.

His opponent is yet to be confirmed but one of the favourites to get through is a boxer from Macclesfield. Should he progress it will be deja-vu for Vanzie as the pair met recently in a sparring session which proved close with each fighter winning two rounds.

In preparation for the fight Vanzie has been sparring at a gym in York to face new fighters and hopefully provide him with some different and testing opposition.
