Vegas fight for Sykes

DEWSBURY boxer Gary Sykes has been handed a shot at World number one Adrien Broner in Las Vegas next month.

The 28-year-old from Dewsbury Moor will meet undefeated WBO World champion Broner at Mandalay Bay on May 19, on the undercard to Amir Khan’s world title fight against Lamont Peterson.

Although Broner’s world title will not be at stake in the 10-round contest, Sykes will get the chance to box the best super featherweight on the planet.

Sykes will start as a massive underdog but the Dewsbury star is not travelling to Vegas to make up the numbers.

Sykes said: “I have never gone into the ring thinking I’m going to lose and I never will, even against the World number one.”
