Captain Haigh aims to bow out on high

Liversedge captain Ryan Haigh will aim to end his career on a high when Tadcaster Albion visit Clayborn on Saturday (kick off 3pm).

Haigh is retiring after making 72 appearances in two spells at Liversedge and the club will mark the occasion with a commemorative programme.

Tadcaster are guaranteed to finish as runners-up in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division but have missed out on the title to Brighouse Town.

Liversedge are planning a junior community day and teams from Cleckheaton Sporting Juniors, Gomersal and Cleckheaton, Norristhorpe and Brighouse Juniors will be involved in a tournament between noon and 2.45pm.

The clubs have paid an entry fee, which Liversedge will donate to Macmillan Cancer Support, and the club will have other fundraising events throughout the afternoon of their final league game.

Liversedge were unlucky to lose 3-2 at Albion Sports last Saturday when they dominated for long periods.

Sedge recovered from a Tom Jackson own goal after just three minutes to equalise through Ely Hey.

Brook Newton gave Sedge a 34th minute lead, which they held until half-time.

Liam Ormsby levelled after 53 minutes but with Sedge pressing for a winner, Albion broke and Daniel Facey popped up with a 90th minute goal for Albion.

Gibril Bojong will finish as Liversedge’s leading goal scorer this time and he needs to score against Tadcaster on Saturday to reach the 20 goal landmark.
