Celtic and Moor slip to National Conference defeats

Dewsbury Celtic and Dewsbury Moor both suffered home defeats in the National Conference League last Saturday.

Celtic scored a first minute try through Sam Tatt in their opening Division Two match of the season against in-form Millom.

Matt Sheridan and Josh Knowles also crossed for Celtic, with Pat Foulstone landed two conversions but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 30-16 defeat.

Ethan Kelly and Jonathan Hodgson scored a brace of tries apiece, while Warwick Carter also crossed for Millom, who had Adam Kelly in fine kicking form, landing five goals.

Celtic are away to Askam on Saturday and they are joint top of the table with Millom having both won their opening two matches.

Dewsbury Moor slipped to a 50-10 defeat at home to Hunslet Parkside in Division Three.

The two league newcomers went head to head but it was Parkside who sealed a second straight win as Andy Hullock bagged four tries.

Danny Harrison, Dale Harris, Luke O’Mally, Omar Alrawi and Ricky Hazelwood also crossed for the impressive Hunslet outfit, who avenged their Yorkshire Cup defeat at the hands of Moor.

Jamie Fields converted four of the tries and Rocky Price three as Parkside topped the half century.

Dewsbury Moor, who have adopted the nickname Maroons for the summer season, entertain Eastmoor Dragons on Saturday with the two sides having won one and lost one of their opening two league fixtures.
