CLECKHEATON will be aiming to spring a shock tomorrow when they welcome Harrogate to Moorend in the first round of the Yorkshire Cup (kick off 2.15pm).
While some clubs have chosen to rest first teamers or even pull out of the competition in recent seasons, Cleckheaton have always regarded the Yorkshire Cup as a major attraction.
They have reached the semi-finals in the last two seasons, only to be edged out by Hull on both occasions, and tomorrow’s showdown against Harrogate will provide Moorend officials with another chance to showcase their club.
Harrogate have won their opening 10 matches in National League Three North and are two points clear at the top.
But Cleckheaton are also in fine form having won their last three matches, including last week’s hard-fought 19-6 success at Durham City.
There is no thought of Cleckheaton resting on their laurels tomorrow and they have named a near full-strength side to take on Harrogate.
Richard Piper scored his ninth try of the season against Durham last week, while Ollie Akroyd crossed for his first since returning to the club from Old Brods in the close season, although the popular no8 is the one notable absentee from tomorrow’s squad.
