Cleck’s plot to storm Rossendale fortress

Cleckheaton will be aiming to end Rossendale’s long unbeaten home run on Saturday and give their survival hopes a further boost (ko 2.15pm).

Rossendale have won all five matches at Marl Pits this term and while Cleckheaton have yet to win away, they travel to Lancashire buoyed by last Saturday’s 21-17 victory over Birkenhead Park.

That win allowed the Moorenders to close the gap on third placed Huddersfield YMCA to just four points and victory over Rossendale would set up a tasty pre-Christmas derby clash against the men from Laund Hill.

Saturday signals the halfway point in the National League Three North campaign and although Cleckheaton have won only three of their opening 12 matches, they remain confident of turning round their form and getting out of trouble.

Victory against Rossendale would further boost the Moorenders’ confidence ahead of what is sure to be a crunch derby the following week.

Captain Richard Piper was taken off injured against Birkenhead but has recovered to take his place at number eight against Rossendale.
