Cleckheaton go in search of a sixth straight win in National League Three North tomorrow when they make the trip to Rossendale (ko 2.15pm).

The Moorenders kick-started 2015 in terrific style last week when they overcame high flying Sale 20-17 to maintain their unbeaten home record.

With league leaders Sandal due at fortress Moorend the following week, Cleckheaton will look to gain further momentum with victory at Marl Pits.

The sides have very similar records, with Cleckheaton lying just one place and four points above tomorrow’s opponents, whose clash with Sandal last week was postponed.

Rossendale have won all but one match on home midden this time and that was a 36-24 reversal against Sandal in the early part of the season.

Cleckheaton edged a 17-14 victory when the sides met at Moorend on September 27 but following that set back, Rossendale went on a seven-match winning run, showing they are a formidable side at this level.

Rossendale lost 25-13 in their last league outing on December 13, so will be eager to ensure tomorrow’s clash goes ahead.

Fly-half Michael Piper had a terrific game to lead his side to victory over Sale, landing a drop-goal and twice kicking penalties to the corner to set up pushover tries.

The kick, catch and drive, is a favoured move of Cleckheaton but even without talisman Richard Piper, off the field injured, the Moorenders got enough men behind the ball to set up tries for Ben Thrower and Rob Afoa Peterson.

Richard Piper has recovered to take his place at no8 for the trip to Rossendale, which is sure to provide a stern test for Ian Armitage’s men.

There is action at Moorend when the Kestrels entertain Sheffield Seconds in the Yorkshire Merit Premiership.
