CLECKHEATOn will be going all out to put on a show in front of an expected bumper crowd tomorrow when Gateshead visit Moorend in North One East (2.15pm).
The clubhouse will be packed before kick-off with 150 guests having a pre-match lunch, along with entertainment provided by Martin Gold.
Supporters will hope the entertainment goes on well into the afternoon as Cleckheaton aim to bounce back from two disappointing results and make up for their 13-7 defeat at Gateshead earlier in the season.
Cleckheaton threw away a 17-0 lead to draw 17-17 against bottom side Team Northumbria a fortnight ago and then slipped to a 10-3 defeat at Sheffield last week in another scrappy game.
However, coach Dave Harrison should have a stronger side on duty tomorrow and is hoping for a better display as the Moorenders aim to sign off before the Christmas break in style.
Harrison said: “It was a poor result at Sheffield when we were penalised out of the game.
“It was 3-3 when they won it with a try in the last five minutes but to be honest, we would have been well out of it had their lad kicked all his penalty goals.”
Hooker Steve Worsley missed the trip to Sheffield due to family commitments and Cleckheaton certainly missed his throw-ins at the line-outs.
Full-back Jonno Marshall pulled out of the game at the 11th hour with a throat infection, while Ed Chappelow also missed the trip to South Yorkshire with a thumb injury but all three should be fit and ready to return for the visit of Gateshead.
Dave ‘Lofty’ Freeman is also set to start against Gateshead and Cleckheaton will hope to dominate the line-out play.
Harrison added: “We missed Steve last week but if he can provide good line-out ball, I think Lofty will clean up in that department.
“Many of the 150 guests who are coming to the lunch, sponsor Cleckheaton in some shape or other, something we are extremely grateful for and the lads will be mingling with the guests after the game to show our appreciation.
“We were very disappointed to lose at Gateshead earlier in the season and with all due respect we should be beating sides like that.”
Gateshead lie third-bottom in the North One East table with four wins from their 14 games, although they come to Cleckheaton on the back of a confidence boosting 14-0 home victory over out of sorts Old Brodleians last week.
Cleckheaton are eighth, two points behind Malton and Norton and nine ahead of Brods, so the Moorenders will be hoping to go into the festive league break on the back of a big win.
Although the league programme shuts down after tomorrow until January 7, when Cleckheaton entertain Wheatley Hills, there is action at Moorend on Boxing Day with the traditional visit of their friends and rivals from Old Brods.
Cleckheaton have yet to decide what kind of side they will field for that clash but it is likely to include players from all the senior sides.
