Cleckheaton opening bowler Iain Wardlaw has been selected in Scotland’s 19-man squad to face Pakistan in two One Day Internationals.
The 27-year-old former Hartshead Moor player travelled to Edinburgh earlier this week and trained with his Scotland teammates ahead of the international double header today and on Sunday.
Wardlaw played two ODI’s against Afghanistan on a tour to the UAE in March and the Yorkshire fast bowler could now be in line to face one of the most formidable nations in cricket.
Wardlaw’s Scotland call-up means he will miss an important weekend of club cricket for Cleckheaton as the Moorenders prepare to take on new Bradford League Division One leaders Manningham Mills tomorrow before hosting Hanging Heaton in the Priestley Cup second round on Sunday.
Cleckheaton moved up to fifth in the table with an impressive league win at Hanging Heaton last week and know toppling leaders Manningham would further shake things up at the top.
East Bierley overseas player Waqas Maqsood has made an excellent start to his career at South View Road and his 7-31 last week helped them move second.
Bierley travel to bottom side Saltaire tomorrow and the Priestley Cup holders then go to Pudsey St Lawrence in the pick of the second round ties.
Champions Woodlands entertain Bradford & Bingley in the league and then travel to second division Undercliffe looking to progress to the Priestley Cup quarter-finals.
Second division Hartshead Moor will be looking to spring a cup upset on Sunday when they travel to Manningham Mills after entertaining Idle in the league tomorrow. Spen Victoria travel to unbeaten New Farnley in Division Two, when Gomersal host Windhill.
