Chippendale's explosive spell sets up emphatic Hanging Heaton win

Lightcliffe were already facing a daunting task after Hanging Heaton posted a mammoth total of 357-6 when they batted first.

Chippendale got to work with a brilliant display of pace bowling as he claimed 8-18 and Lightcliffe were dismissed for just 32 inside 10 overs.

He took six wickets in eight balls, including four in four as he claimed a wicket off the final ball of one over followed by a hat-trick at the start of his next.

He was on course to break John Carruthers’ Hanging Heaton club record of 9-26 against Bowling Old Lane but Josh Holling had Chris Greenwood caught behind by Francis Nelson to become the ninth victim and Daanyaal Ahmed could not bat due to injury.

Alex Stead batted through the Lightcliffe innings for 14 not out.

Earlier, five Hanging Heaton batsmen made half centuries in their innings.

Gary Fellows top scored with 80 and Joe Fraser struck 63 to set a good platform which allowed some explosive hitting late on.

Ben Kohler-Cadmore struck six fours and four sixes on his way to 69 off 45 balls and Callum Geldart made 51 off 39 balls.

David Stiff provided more fireworks as he smashed 62 not out off just 26 balls, including five fours and four sixes.

Hanging Heaton are third on 148 points but closed the gap on second placed Pudsey St Lawrence, who lost by 22 runs at home to Methley.

A 67-run sixth-wicket partnership between Dan Shuffe (53) and Grant Soames (44) helped Methley reach 231-8 as Richie Lamb bagged 3-69 and Steve Watts 3-58.

Adam Waite led the Saints reply with 35 but they were dismissed for 209 as Soames (3-31) and Waqas Ahmed 3-54 shone.

New Farnley remain top, 13 points clear of St Lawrence and a further six ahead of Hanging Heaton after they defeated Bradford & Bingley.

Farnley were 38-5 but recovered to 231-8 as Steve Bullen (88) and Joe Bedford (63no) put on 167 runs for the sixth wicket as Ed Brown took 3-23 and Abdi-Hasan Rehman Ahmed 3-31.

Bingley were then dismissed for 158 as spinner Dave McCallum claimed 6-43, with Brown (32no) their top scorer.
