Crossbank and Mount celebrate section titles

IT was celebration time for Mount and Crossbank Methodists last Sunday after winning their respective sections of the Huddersfield Central League.

Crossbank Methodists A held a five point lead over Edgerton going into the last match at Denby Dale, who were playing their final game before joining the Drakes League next summer.

Edgerton secured a five-point win over Holmbridge in their last game, while Denby Dale threatened to spoil the Crossbank party after they posted 180-8 and then reduced the visitors to 110-6.

Former Staincliffe player Shahid Tanvir rolled back the years and was 71 not out when rain saw the game abandoned and handed the title to Crossbank.

Captain Richard Hosley was unable to play as he was at a Christening but dashed back to Denby Dale for the closing stages and was on hand to collect the championship trophy.

Mount clinched the Section A crown three weeks ago and they rounded off in style with a seven-wicket win over Almondbury Wesleyans.

Yusuf Kayat claimed 3-17 to help restrict Almondbury to 152-9 from their 45 overs, before Usama Sacha (44) and Fakir Laher (36no) steered Mount to victory and they only lost one game all season. It was double celebration for Mount as their B team clinched promotion from Section D on the final day of the season.
